Scallywags is a friendly and welcoming parent and toddler playgroup for children up to 3 years old.

We meet in St Mary’s Parish Hall on Tuesday mornings during school term time, from 10-11.30am

The playgroup is very popular for families with babies or very young children, particularly those who have recently moved into the area and are hoping to make new friends.

The entry fee is £3 per family, which includes tea, coffee and biscuits for the adults, and water or squash for the children.

All the volunteers who assist with the playgroup are DBS checked.

The playgroup takes place in the Parish Hall which is divided (by rows of chairs) into three areas. A safe space for ride-in plastic cars and sturdy push-along bikes for the more active children is at the reception end of the hall.

The central area has several structured activity zones for more creative play, with a Brio train table, a PlayDoh craft table, and a table with books, puzzles and drawing items. There is a climbing frame, a small children’s slide,  a fabric play tunnel and a play circus tent for children to explore their sense of adventure.

For shared fun and games, there are a pair of medieval castles with toy knights and pirates, a multi-storage garage complete with toy cars and fire engines, and a realistic toy cooker complete with saucepans and plastic vegetables.

The far end of the hall is a more peaceful area for younger toddlers and small babies. We welcome children accompanied either by mums, dads, grandparents, au pairs or other carers, and here the accompanying adult can sit on the floor to read stories, or help the child with quiet play.
