Tea & Chat runs from 2 to 3.30pm every Monday, in the Parish Hall.
Founded by Hilary Yates and ably supported by Barbara Moreland, Sheila Tucker and Neville Squires, Tea & Chat runs from 2pm to 3.30pm every Monday (with just one break over August).
Everyone is welcome, not just members of the St Mary’s congregation. Daisy Scrivener is a regular member and, living on her own, she particularly appreciates the chance to get out of the house and meet good friends. “We also have a really good laugh!” she says. “And as it’s every week, it doesn’t matter if I can’t get along to every session.”
Daisy, like several Tea & Chat regulars, is also a patron of St Mary’s quarterly Fellowship Sunday Lunches (featured in the Summer issue of Parish Matters), and also the new monthly Film Club. December always sees the
group decamp for a pre-Christmas gathering in Merton Vicarage, hosted by the Vicar, John Hayward, which is always particularly looked forward to.
Hilary has a rota of bakers that Mary Berry would be proud of, and party bags are supplied for any leftovers to be taken home by members. Hilary says that although most are ladies, men are usually well represented and stresses that good listeners are just as welcome as good chatters!
“Some of the best conversations actually take place over the washing-up!” she says. “And what I always find particularly extraordinary is the range of career stories and life experiences that members bring to the sessions".
